This week we’re excited to shine the spotlight on blogger Kristan from Confessions of a Cookbook Queen.
At first glance you might think it’s just another food blog with lovely photos of tasty treats and recipes. But as soon as you start reading you’ll realize that you’re in for a sweet and sassy treat! Kristan says the things most of us think and that is what makes her blog unique!
She took the time to answer a few questions for us and shared a delicious pumpkin recipe — Enjoy!
GPC: What inspired you to share your cooking exploits on a blog ?
Kristan: I really loved baking and creating fun treats, and I was inspired by so many blogs that I read. The only problem was, I didn’t feel like any of them really spoke to ME. Everything was so perfect looking!! I felt like I needed to start a site that was approachable for novices and encouraged even the most busy or “imperfect” women.
GPC: Has your blog changed since you started and how?
Kristan: I’ve started sharing a lot more of my personal life. I realized that there are SO many blogs out there with great ideas and recipes…the only thing that sets mine apart is me. We all have a unique story to tell, and I think that is what brings readers back.
GPC: Have you become friends with any of your blog followers?
Kristan: Yes!! Followers AND fellow bloggers. One of my best friends is a blogger that I met through our sites. She lives in New Jersey but we talk every day and manage to see eachother a couple of times a year. And there are a few local readers who I have been lucky enough to meet and connect with and we have lunch occasionally.
GPC: Most of your recipes are sweets, but do you also enjoy cooking savory recipes?
Kristan: Yes, I do. I really enjoy ALL cooking, and most of our meals are eaten at home. I try to cook dinner every night and we sit at the table and talk about our day…it’s important!! But the thing I love about baking is that it’s a treat. It’s easy to get frustrated with daily meal cooking, but dessert never gets old.
GPC: What ingredients or kitchen tools do you think you couldn’t live without?
Kristan: Ingredients – Sugar!! I also LOOOVE Vanilla and cinnamon. I usually add vanilla to anything, and if the recipe calls for 1 tablespoon, I’ll probably add two. As for equipment, definitely my KitchenAid Stand mixer. It’s truly indispensable.
GPC: Do you and your family indulge in the sweet treats you make?
Kristan: Absolutely!! Of course, I can’t eat all of it and neither can my son or husband…our neighbors benefit a lot from my recipes and so does my church!!
GPC: How do you balance blogging with your family and other commitments?
Kristan: I am lucky enough to be a stay at home mom…my son is in second grade, so I can use the day to focus on baking and blogging. Sometimes it creeps into the weekends or evenings, but I’m careful to manage my time and prioritize wisely…kids grow up so fast and I don’t want to miss anything, or have my son feel like my computer was more important than him. I also feel like as a parent of a kid growing up in a “screen” generation, it’s important to set a good example.
I have a baby coming any week now, so my schedule will change and I will make adjustments…but luckily babies nap a lot so I’ll make it work!!
GPC: We just have to ask… How many cookbooks do you have?
Kristan: Honestly, I have NO idea!! I can’t even fit them all on my bookshelves…it’s like a sickness. I know when we moved recently, I had huge bins FULL of them…my husband was ready to kill me!!
Kristan Shared her Caramel Topped Pumpkin Bread Pudding Recipe with us…yum!
