A Holiday Beauty Routine That Shines

Because Mom can sparkle too

Sparkle this holiday with these beauty tips from ganz Parenet Club

The decadent food, glamorous holiday decorations and mood-boosting music of the holiday season help to make this the happiest time of the year, but what would a seasonal celebration be without a little sparkle and shine?

You may be thinking that you’re past the age of appropriateness to wear sequins tops and glittery dresses, but there are subtle ways to add a little pizazz to your beauty routine while keeping your style classic and simple.

Eyes

Dust a shimmer – not glitter flecked – eye shadow in a champagne, rose gold or bronze shade all over your eyelid.

Using your pinky fingertip, tap a small amount of highlighter – Benefit’s High Beam is perfection – in the corner of your eyes to wake them up and make the whites of your eyes bright.

Swipe black liquid eyeliner on your lid, as close to the lash line as possible, and then top it with a swipe of gold liquid liner. Application trick: rest your elbow on a countertop or table so that your hand stays steady will drawing the liquid line.

Coat top and bottom lashes with jet black mascara and let dry. Swipe top lashes with another layer of mascara in a funky shade; choose violet for green eyes, blue for brown eyes, orange for blue eyes and green for hazel eyes.

Cheeks

Use a brightening powder – we swear by Pixie All Over Magic Powder from Target (only $24.99) – on the bridge of your nose and top of your cheekbones to refresh dull, parched winter skin. At the end of that holiday party you attend, when your face is still glowing, you can thank the light-reflecting pigments in this drugstore find.

Build upon the powder by adding a lightweight cream blush – like Revlon’s Photo Ready Cream Blush – in a preppy pink or eye-catching coral on the apples of your cheeks and along your jawline, but don’t be heavy-handed because a little goes a long way.

Lips

Dark-rimmed eyes and playful cheeks call for just a subtle wash of color on the lips, so give Tarte’s Lip Luster in Buff a try because the nude shade will let your beautiful facial features shine. Bonus: this balm-like stain has a hint of glimmer in it, so your pout will be oh so kissable when the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Nails

Chunky glitter nail polishes that require an electric sander to remove are best left for tweens and teens to enjoy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a little fun with your nail color. Deborah Lippman – who should simply be referred to as nail maven to the moms (oh, and the stars) – has created a sheer, shimmer lilac polish called “Whatever Lola Wants” that would be ideal on your fingers and toes.

Here’s to a beautiful holiday season!
