A homemade pet pillow for a cat.For years Matt and I have been concentrating all our efforts on making people comfortable in their homes. Well today, I am finally advancing into the animal kingdom and making pet pillows!

These are super easy to make and fun for your pets to use. Just grab 2 yards of your favorite or should I say your pets favorite fleece pattern. My cats like bold colors, so I thought this fuchsia would be very nice.

Supply List:

  • 2 yds. Fleece
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Tape Measure
  • Marker
  • Pins
  • Fiberfil

Pillow Instructions:

  1. Fold the fleece in half with the cut edges together and cut into two equal pieces.
  2. Next, cut two large pieces which will be the top and bottom of the pillow. To cut a nice round circle, just fold each piece into quarters and take a fabric measuring tape or even a yardstick and place the end at the corner fold. Now measure along one edge to see how big a radius you can cut out. Ours measured 13 ½” inches. Move the tape measure in a quarter circle, holding the end at the fold. Make a mark every so often using a marker.
  3. Cut out the circle making sure to cut off the marker lines as you go. A good sharp scissor should move through the layers just fine.
  4. Pin the two circles together about 4-6 inches in from the edge to make room to cut the fringe. Cut in about 4-5” at the quarter marks aiming your scissors towards the center. Then, cut in the middle of the quarter towards the center and continue in that fashion until you have fringe about 1” thick all along the edge. Because you are aiming towards the center with each cut, the fringe will be narrower towards the middle.
  5. When the fringe is cut all the way around, it’s time to start tying. Just grab a top and bottom coordinating fringe piece and tie them together. Just remember the process you use for tying so that the knots look the same all the way around. Tie them tight because this is basically the stitching all the way around the pillow. Leave a few undone so you can stuff the pillow.
  6. To stuff the pillow grab handfuls of Fiberfil from the bag and stuff it into the pillow. I like to purposely put the filling in and up to the edges so I know the pillow is filled evenly, so there is a bit of a system to it. When you are done filling, tie the rest of the knots to close the opening.

Now don’t mention this to Matt, but this could be an accessory pillow! And, what a fun project this would be for kids at a sleepover. They could all make their own pillows for the night. Or have your church group make up a bunch for the local help center. Anyway, a pillowed pet is a happy pet, and it was soooo simple!

  1. Cute idea! But for me, this would be a fun craft for a sleepover. My cat likes to be on someone’s lap.

  2. We made these pillows at camp this year. They’re easy to make and super soft. Even the littlest members in your family can make one..

  3. These pillows are so fun to make. Also making blankets the same way are great gifts

  4. I love this! I have always been a big fan of Room By Room and I’m so glad you are bringing us even more great ideas here. This looks like the perfect weekend craft for me and my two little girls. Thanks for the great project!

  5. sounds fun

  6. What a cute idea for the kids to help with! Unfortunately our dogs are much bigger and enjoy our couch and beds over an undersized pillow! They would make nice couch throws though!
