Are you looking for a fun project for a rainy spring day? Pull out the paint, paper plates and construction paper, and craft up these adorably fun farm animals! These cute characters are actually inspired by some of the Webkinz animals; such as the spring chicks and lambs as well as the virtual animals like the cow and pig. You can hang them on the wall, or cut holes instead of painting the eyes and make them into masks for an afternoon of make believe.
Craft Supplies:
- Paper plates, one for each animal
- Construction paper (white and black)
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Sharpie marker
- White paint pen (optional, can dip a toothpick in white paint as an alternative)
- Pattern 1 (pdf link)
- Pattern 2 (pdf link)
- Pattern 3 (pdf link)
For younger kids, instead of painting the paper, simply using a similar color of construction paper.
Paint Colors:
- Cream or ivory
- Light Pink
- Light Yellow
- Dark Yellow
- Baby Blue
- White
- Black
How to Make It:
Paint the paper plates first (one each dark yellow, cream, pink and baby blue) and let dry. Print all the patterns and cut out the pieces.
COW
Paint a piece of white construction paper with cream paint and allow it to dry. Meanwhile, cut out the cow’s head and one of the ears from black construction paper. Cut two horns from white construction paper. When the cream paper is dry, cut the cow’s snout and an opposite ear from the painted paper. Using the photo as your guide, use a glue stick to attach the black head section to the front of the cream paper plate first, then glue on the snout. Next attach both ears, the cream ear on the left and black on the right, then finally the horns. Use a Sharpie to draw on the nostrils, eyes and eyebrow. Fill in the eyes with black paint and dot on the white with a white paint pen.
PIG
Cut a piece of white construction paper in half and paint one half with light yellow. Paint the other half of the paper with light pink. Use the patterns to cut the pig’s nose from the yellow painted paper and the ear pattern to cut two ears (opposing each other) from the pink paper. Use a glue stick to attach the nose to the front of the pink paper plate and the ears to the back. Use a Sharpie marker to draw on nostrils, eyebrows and circles for eyes. Fill in the eyes with black paint and dot on the white with a white paint pen. Add a line of yellow paint to the pink ears (see photo).
CHICK
Cut beak from pink paper and use a glue stick to attach it to the front of the dark yellow plate. Use a Sharpie to draw on eyes and eyebrows. Fill in the eyes with black paint and dot on the white with a white paint pen.
SHEEP
Cut the sheep’s hair and two ears from white construction paper. Cut out the sheep’s nose and two cheeks from pink painted paper. Use a glue stick to attach the hair to the front of the baby blue paper plate and the ears to the back. Glue the nose to the center of the plate then glue the cheeks on either side. Use a Sharpie to draw the mouth, eyes, and eyebrows. Fill in the eyes with black paint and dot on the white with a white paint pen.
Have fun!

These are adorable! I’ll definitely make these with my preschooler.
Great, so glad you liked them!
