School of Seashell Fish

A fun way to use up some of those seashell from vacation!

How to Make a Sea Shell CraftYou and your kids collected a ton of seashells at the beach, and now you’re wondering what to do with them all! If you didn’t get a chance to hit the beach this summer, you can pick up seashells from the craft store and sometimes find them at garage sales, too. Sit down with your kids and make these easy tropical fish!

Craft Supplies:

  • Assorted seashells
  • Googly eyes, various sizes
  • Hot glue gun or instant grab glue

Note: If using a hot glue gun, it’s best that parents handle that part. Instant grab glue dries quickly and is a nice alternative.

How to Make It:

  1. Lay out your shells first, choosing smaller shells for dorsal fins, tail and side fins.
  2. Once you have chosen which shells go with which, go ahead and glue them together.
  3. Glue googly eyes onto your fish.
  4. To display, try adding some blue cellophane to a piece of foam core board and gluing the fish to your faux sea.

These are so cute! I don’t have kids but am going to make some anyway. This is the kid of gift you can give to that um… “older” member of the family that says “Don’t get me anything, I don’t want anything, I don’t need anything, bah humbug” :) Maybe if the shell isn’t that perfect you can add big sequins to look like scales, or even paint them, embellish them, glue a small rock under it for a paperweight, add Bling. Bling Fish, there ya go. Thanks for the great idea!
